Nestled in the mountains of southeast San Diego county, lies Gloriosa Vineyards. Our warm, mild climate is ideal for growing quality grapes and producing rich, full-bodied Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and very soon, Sangiovesi wine.
Rolling hills and beautiful mountains surround Gloriosa Vineyards creating the perfect combination of strong ocean breezes and warm, dry climate. We lie at 2,620 feet above sea level which blesses us with very nice mild weather with warm, dry summers.
Vintners Mert and Gloria Thomas are passionate about crafting a legacy that will pass onto their children and grandchildren. Purely sustainable wine is their goal with an emphasis on quality. Power is wind generated with the sun providing a touch of power here and there.
The vines are nourished by sweet well water, drawn from deep beneath the rocky soil, far from the chemicals and pollutants found in water sources closer to more densely populated areas. No chemicals are used on the vines and Gloriosa is proud to say we are in the process of obtaining organic licensing.
Keeping the soil under his nails, Mert, a San Diego native and 30 year US Forest Service worker, cultivated his love of San Diego’s back country and working with his treasured vines. While bringing his own dream of a vineyard to life, Mert was making it possible for numerous land owners who shared his dream to have vineyards of their own by designing, planting and managing several vineyards around San Diego County.
Mert and Gloria have been growing grapes together for over 14 years and call Gloriosa their home away from home. Whether walking through the vines together, plucking the stray branch or toasting each other at sunset, Gloriosa is built on a solid foundation of love and commitment.
